About this event
In Munich, Spartan Race sets up at the foot of the Olympic Park for a weekend of obstacle course racing in the mythical setting of the 1972 Olympic Games. Various formats follow one another from the first day (Night Sprint 5 km/20 obstacles, HH4 over 4 hours) followed by a Super 10 km/25 obstacles and a daytime Sprint the next day; all of it can aim for the Trifecta trophy. Mud, climbs, and technical challenges will pace the beats of the Bavarian Spartans.
« Spartans, what is your profession ? »
« Ahou, ahou, ahou », 🛡️. Ready to step into the shoes of a real Spartiate for an extraordinary obstacle course? 🤯 Grab your big arms and prepare to test yourself against the Spartan Race Munich ! In April, the sun returns… and outdoor sports resume ☀️. No more Netflix afternoons in the blanket, lace up your sneakers 👟. Your first mission of the season takes place at the Olympic Park in Munich, southeast Germany 🇩🇪.
For this edition, forget the Peloponnese and sunny seaside shores: your battlefield rises at the foot of the Munich Olympic Park. ⚔️ The Spartan Race lands its valises of obstacles in Bavaria, at the site of the 1972 Summer Olympics. Need I say more about how bright you’ll have to shine to honor the legends who walked these lands before you 😌. For a weekend, the usual calm will be replaced by the bustle of thousands of Spartans gathered for the occasion 🔥. Get ready to 48 hours of an epic experience in a legendary venue that has seen more than a few champions 🏆.
As per Spartan Race tradition, you’ll find several courses of different difficulties to push yourself according to your will. On the first day, you can choose between the "Night Sprint" and the "HH4" 🌙. On the "Night Sprint", the name says it all: a nocturnal race, typically in a short format, starting at 20h. Specifically, the course takes you exactly 5 km with a total of 20 obstacles. You’ll see, at night it’s a whole different vibe 😈. The cheers and encouragement are more intense, but time usually crawls by 👀. What’s certain is you’ve got to try the experience! The "HH4" has nothing to do with an molecule d'hexahydromachinchose or some malagasy rap ... It’s actually a race format spread over 4 hours. For endurance and extended effort fans, that’s exactly the format to pick 👀. And if Day 1’s program doesn’t suit you, listen to what’s next: a 10 km "Super" format with 25 obstacles starts at 8:00 AM the next day 🌞. For the most timid runners who don’t like hunting for effort after nightfall, there’s also a daytime version of the "Sprint". That way, you don’t even need a headlamp 🔦. Spartan Race fans are already on it, but the Trifecta, this three-part trophy to assemble race after race can also be earned at the event 😎. Little caveat for medal chasers: without a "Beast" format in Munich, you’ll complete your collection elsewhere, in Berlin or Kulmbach ✌️.
On the running side, expect as much asphalt as rolling hills 🌱. You’ll wade through mud, crawl in the sand, leap over fire and dive into the Olympic lake before tackling the steep climb of the Olympiaberg, the race’s high point offering a unique panorama of the entire city 🏙️. Between ascents, the obstacles won’t give you a break: walls to overcome, Rope Climb, Hercules Hoist 🏋️♂️, javelin throw and rampage under barbed wire, you’ll end up flat on your knees, but that’s why you signed up, right? Keep your eyes open, because if you miss a station the consequence is final: 30 burpees to avoid elimination 😅. After you’ve sweated it out and asked yourself many times why you came, you’ll reach the Olympic Stadium, where the crowd will cheer you as if you’d just won the biggest gold medal of the whole competition 🥇. Savor that feeling, it doesn’t come every four mornings 😉. And because champions are born at a young age, courses are also offered to children aged 4 to 14 years. Revelation and competition, it’s the moment for them to discover new passions ❤️.
Once you cross the line, fully enjoy your reward: the Bavarian region 🥨. Kick things off with the Weisswurst, a white sausage always accompanied by its Pretzel and a dab of mild mustard, or save room for a perfectly crispy Schweinshaxe. If you’re not from around here, here’s the specialty: a roasted pork knuckle, served with potatoes or homemade sauerkraut 🤤. If you weren’t motivated by the effort yet, you should be by the local cuisine anyway... To end the day in style, head to the Biergarten nearest and toast to all the home Spartans 🍻 (in moderation, of course)! The next day, spin your legs toward Marienplatz and its bell tower 🔔, or go see urban surfers riding the Eisbach wave in the English Garden 🏄♂️. Surfers in the city center are a sight to behold 😂.
So in April, put aside jokes, fish, and excuses: Bavaria is waiting for your battle cry! 🪖
