Le marathon Tata Mumbai est le plus grand marathon d'Asie et le plus grand événement sportif populaire du continent, attirant des dizaines de milliers de coureurs chaque année en janvier. Organisé pour la première fois en 2004 et désormais classé Gold Label Road Race, il propose six catégories de courses, du marathon complet (42,195 km) à la course inclusive Champions with Disability Run (2,4 km). Le parcours du marathon suit une boucle pittoresque à travers Mumbai, partant de la gare Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus et passant par des sites emblématiques tels que Marine Drive, Haji Ali et le Bandra-Worli Sea Link. L'ambiance est incroyable, avec des foules enthousiastes, des spectacles culturels et des athlètes internationaux et indiens de haut niveau qui partagent tous les mêmes rues. Cette course a aussi une médaille spéciale, la « Inspiration Medal », lancée en 2018, qui permet aux participants de partager leur réussite avec quelqu'un qui les a inspirés. Avec un gros prix à gagner, c'est la course sur route la plus riche de l'Inde et un moment fort du calendrier mondial de la course à pied.
