About this event
Tatra SkyMarathon is a 40 km mountain race, with an elevation gain of about 2300 m, tailored for runners who prefer the technical ridges of the Western Tatras and bare rock over asphalt. The course starts and ends in Kościelisko, offering views of Giewont and Czerwone Wierchy, and puts competitors to the test with technical descents and altitude. After the effort, the Zakopane region offers recovery options, Chochołów thermal baths, and panoramas from Gubałówka.
Tatra SkyMarathon is a race for those who prefer the rocky terrain of the Tatras and technical ridgelines over flat asphalt. This isn’t an ordinary marathon – it’s 40 km of pure mountain magic with an elevation gain of about 2300 m ascent! 📈 The course starts and ends in the picturesque Kościelisko, traversing the challenging trails of the Western Tatras, where lungs burn, and the views of the Giewont and the Czerwone Wierchy literally take your breath away ✨. It’s a challenge for true "chamois", who love technical descents and battling their own altitude-induced weakness.
Once you’ve descended from the mountain and your heart rate is back to normal, Kościelisko and the surrounding area of Zakopane (less than two hours from Kraków) offer the best recovery under the sun ⛰️:
Kościeliska Valley: An ideal place for families for a relaxed stroll after the race. You can visit caves (like the Mroźna cave) or simply join the shelter at Hala Ornak for a delicious apple pie 🥧.
Chochołów Baths: Just 15 minutes from the finish line! A true paradise for tired muscles – the warm mineral water and the views of the mountains from the outdoor pool are the best "physiotherapists" you could dream of 💆♂️.
Gubałówka: Take the funicular from Zakopane to admire the panorama of the Tatras you just hiked across – a perfect moment for a romantic sunset together 🌅.
Oscypek with cranberries and kwaśnica: On Krupówki in Zakopane or at a local inn, absolutely savor a grilled oscypek and a bowl of proper kwaśnica with pork – that fat and salt are real fuel for every ultra-trail runner 🧀!
