Set off on a running adventure where a team shares a legendary 345-kilometer route from the Low Tatras to the Danube, in 36 stages, from the Demänovská Valley to Bratislava. This cult relay race in Slovakia is lived day and night, with mountain climbs and night-time passages, followed by a grand celebration upon arrival in the capital. After the effort, discover Bratislava Castle, the Old Town, and the SNP Bridge at sunset.
Imagine a running adventure where, with a trusted crew of friends, you throw down a challenge to an entire country! Od Tatr do Dunaju (Od Tatier k Dunaju) is a legendary relay race, the biggest and most spectacular in Slovakia. The route spans 345 kilometers and takes you from the picturesque and rugged Jasná Płyt in the Low Tatras (Demänovská Valley) to the very heart of Bratislava, right on the banks of the majestic Danube.
Teams (usually 9 or 12 people) run non-stop day and night, sharing the route across 36 unique legs. You’ll tackle spectacular mountain ascents, nighttime sections through sleepy Slovak villages, incredible moments, no sleep at all, and cheers from the team’s car windows🚗! And when, after dozens of hours of struggle, laughter, and pushing your own limits, you all cross the finish line together in Bratislava, it’ll be time for a well-deserved big celebration. Bratislava, the capital, is the perfect place to spend the rest of the weekend with the team or your significant other 😉 :
A well-deserved break at the Bratislava Castle : This monumental quadrangular fortress overlooks the city. A stroll in its Baroque gardens is a great way to stretch your legs, and the view of the Danube and the Austrian border lingers in the memory 🏰.
A romantic evening in the Old Town : The charming narrow lanes of Bratislava’s historic center are full of atmospheric little bars. Don’t miss the famous statue of Čumil (the voyeur emerging from a manhole) — a photo with him is an essential keepsake 📸.
Sunset over the SNP Bridge with the UFO Observation Deck : For unforgettable thrills, take the elevator up to the UFO restaurant’s viewing platform, suspended high above the Danube. The panoramic view of the city lit up at night is simply magical 🛸.
Traditional bryndzové halušky: After burning thousands of calories during the relay race, you’ve earned the national dish of Slovakia: small potato-dough dumplings with melting bryndza and crispy bacon bits, all washed down with a local craft beer or a Kofola 🥓🍺.
