Le Thornton Turkey Trot, reconnu comme le plus ancien Turkey Trot de l'Illinois, est un événement annuel qui attire les meilleurs coureurs de la banlieue sud. L'événement comprend une course communautaire de 5 km, une course de 1,6 km pour les enfants de 8e année et moins, ainsi qu'une marche communautaire. Il comprend également une compétition par équipes entre lycées, avec des récompenses collectives attribuées en fonction des points obtenus par chaque équipe. Tous les participants qui terminent la course reçoivent une médaille, et des récompenses sont remises aux trois premiers de chaque catégorie d'âge. Les bénéfices sont reversés à la Winged Foot Foundation, une organisation à but non lucratif qui aide les étudiants athlètes de la région de Chicago à travers des initiatives sportives et académiques.
