Le marathon de Toyama est l'une des principales courses automnales du Japon, accueillant jusqu'à 13 000 coureurs sur son parcours certifié de 42,195 km. Avec un délai généreux de 7 heures, il attire à la fois les athlètes de compétition et les marathoniens débutants. Le parcours commence à la mairie de Takaoka et passe par des sites culturels tels que le Grand Bouddha de Takaoka, le quartier historique de Yamachosuji et la gare moderne de Shin-Takaoka avant d'atteindre la côte au parc Kaiwomaru. En traversant l'emblématique pont Shinminato, les coureurs sont récompensés par une vue imprenable sur la baie de Toyama et, par temps clair, sur la chaîne de montagnes Tateyama. La dernière ligne droite emmène les athlètes le long du canal Fugan, pour finir au parc Kansui où les spectateurs se rassemblent dans une ambiance animée et encourageante.
