Trail des Rivières et Châteaux aux portes du Lauragais

In June next month, just before summer 🌞, there will be a new edition of the Trail des Rivières et Châteaux aux Portes du Lauragais ! 👑 A evocative and curious name for this event held in Saint-Orens-de-Gameville, in the heart of the Haute-Garonne Occitanie... But not so curious when you know the rich cultural heritage of this territory! 🤯 Historically, the Lauragais was a recognized entity in the southwest of the France, before being divided during the French Revolution into four departments: the Haute-Garonne, the l’Aude, the l’Ariège and the Tarn 👨‍🎓. There you have it! 🤓 Anyway, you can imagine: there will be castles and rivers (what a surprise! 🙄).

The Course des Rivières et Châteaux aux Portes du Lauragais is organized by the town of Saint-Orens-de-Gameville (with partner neighboring municipalities Quint-Fonsegrives, Lauzerville and Auzielle 🏡), who from the very first edition wished to create a unifying running event 🏃‍♀️. A race that is festive, sociable and linked to a charitable cause 👏. For this new edition, a portion of the registrations will be donated to the Secours Populaire de Saint-Orens. The ecological aspect 🌱 is also very important to the race creators, and that is always appreciated by the finishers 🎽.

The routes laid out for the event are made up of 80% trails and 20% of road 🔥. We have logically classified it as a trail, even though you could consider it a mixed race from this point of view! It’s your call 😏. You will traverse paths and roads around the 4 municipalities (Saint-Orens-de-Gameville, Quint-Fonsegrives, Lauzerville and Auzielle), taking advantage of the lovely castles present 🏰, such as the Cayras Castle, and public parks arranged around 🌷. Your strides will be refreshed by the surrounding rivers like la Saune 💦, which you’ll stroll along at times. To enjoy all this with family, numerous children’s races with evocative names are planned: the "Hérissons" race 🦔 for 400 m for ages 4-6 years, the "Grenouilles" race 🐸 of 800 m for ages 7-9 years, the "Écureuils" race 🐿 for 1.6 km for ages 10-11 years, the "Lapins" race 🐇 of 2.4 km for ages 12-13 years, the "Marcassins" race 🐷 for 3.2 km​ for ages 14-15 years ! Wow ! 😃 By the way, two of the offered races (the 14 km and the 7 km) are also open to walkers ! This info is important, plus 😂.

In this department of the Haute-Garonne, nature and the city dance for the best 💃. The hiking routes are plentiful in this area: Cascade d'Enfer, Pays de l'Ourse, Seuil de Naurouze... You will find enchantment here! 😍 punctuated by the charm of southern villages, such as Saint-Gaudens or Bagnères-de-Luchon. If you have a little extra time, towns like Muret, Blagnac, Colomiers can be excellent alternatives to Toulouse.
