Winter event held in the village of Mouthe, famous as the coldest village in France, with a night start and a snowy ambiance in the heart of the Jura. Two distances are offered: 10 km (288 m D+) and 20 km (496 m D+), crossing the Noirmont State Forest and other sites before returning to town. After the effort, enjoy conviviality with a fondue and tasty specialties, in a warming evening.
No Mammouth but fur allowed!
Push your limits in the coldest village in France 🥶! Winter, night, snow and freezing cold: the stage is set, and it will heat up the bravest. The village of Mouthe is located in Doubs, in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. In the Jura mountains, at 930 meters above sea level, the January 13, 1968 marked France's record low temperature: -36.7°C! It’s in this same January that you will start in the night, headlights securely attached, from the Mouthe Trail.
Two distances available: 10 km and 288m D+ or 20 km and 496m, elevation gain. On a course where the snow ❄️ will accompany you from the village center to the pine forests, you’ll start your journey from the Noirmont Forest National Reserve before passing by the Rocks and crossing the cul du Bief and then Le Cébriot. After a detour through Petite Chaux, you’ll head toward Landrot (without Mickaël), the Ban woods and Ruin Wood before returning to Mouthe.
As you’ve guessed, we’re not here to smash records at the Mouthe Trail to win time, but to enjoy a grand experience with the snow underfoot. And running a race in a village listed on Guinness Book, that’s not every day! 📓
That’s when you’ll wonder: “after such effort in such cold, will we be pampered at the finish?.” Of course! The evening after the race is among the most festive… and the tastiest 😋. On the menu: a lovely fondue, with Comté and Morbier. Everything you need to warm up properly after this extraordinary trail and extend the celebrations by the fireplace. To warm up your toes if any remain.🦶
