Craving a demanding and spectacular mountain trail in the Ariège Pyrenees? Start at the foot of Pic de Cagire near Aspet, in Haute-Garonne, with two distances: 17 km and 35 km (2,400 mD+). Expecting summer sun, the course combines steep slopes and technical trails through the Litournau, Lauech, and Larreix forests, offering a breathtaking rolling panorama. Get ready and remember to splash yourself with water frequently.

Just a few steps from the Spanish border 🇪🇸 and to the south of Occitania, the charming village of Aspet (pronounce Aspèth if you don’t want to get in trouble!) is the start point of the Trail du Cagire. Held in June, this mountain race is usually run under a bright sun at the dawn of summer ☀️. At the foot of the Ariège Pyrenees, it is the flagship event of the Pays des Comminges (historic Pyrénées region). Notably thanks to its mountain ranges, and more specifically the Pic de Cagire and its peak at 1912m above sea level. 🔝
This event in the Haute-Garonne unfolds over 2 distances : the Payssas Trail of 17 km and the Cagire Trail (35 km with 2 400 mD+). Between fairly steep slopes, technical trails and rugged paths, all under blazing sun, we only have one piece of advice: get well prepared and remember to drench yourself with water frequently. 🥵 As for vegetation, you’ll also be treated to passages through Litournau, Lauech, and Larreix woods. 🌳
Despite Aspet being a pretty technical trail, you’ll be utterly captivated by the beauty of this site and its surroundings. You’ll enjoy a breathtaking rolling panorama all around you. After the race, we invite you to explore Aspet in more detail, including the Miègecoste Chapel overlooking this small commune with the tour of the Chucaou (an edifice dear to the villagers). And if you’re a bit hungry, unfortunately asparagus isn’t the specialty (if we push the joke to the limit…) but rather the aïgo boulido (or tourin with garlic), a garlic soup with rye bread and grated cheese. 🧄
