In the heart of the Causses and Quercy Regional Natural Park, in late January, the Aqueduct Trail takes place in Lot, around the village of Cours. Offering 13 or 25 km, it blends technical terrain, mud, and crossing an underground aqueduct, with a headlamp essential when needed. The panoramas over the Causses and valleys provide an intense and spectacular athletic experience.
To the northern tip of Occitania and in the heart of Lot, the Aqueduct Trail takes place at the end of January within the sumptuous Parc Naturel Régional des Causses et du Quercy, labeled a UNESCO Global Geopark. Rich in exceptional geological heritage, this park of the Causses and Quercy (+ 185 500 hectares) is full of fabulous landscapes to discover. ⛰
We offer several routes depending on how you’re feeling to explore this natural space: 13 km or 25 km for the boldest! Whatever route you choose, don’t forget to dress warmly as the icy wind often makes an appearance at this time of year. 🥶
This trail, which promises to be quite dynamic and fairly technical, will start in the village of Cours (we’re clearly in the theme!) with the crossing of the Nouaillac stream
However, your efforts will be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama (hold on a moment anyway…) over the heights of the Causses with views over the verdant valleys on one side but also on drier areas (canyons of the Ouysse and Alzou) where limestone predominates for the greatest delight of your eyes 😎. Remember to listen closely, you might even hear a fox bark echoing through the valley… 🦊
And if you’re not yet conquered by this place full of surprising wonders and you want to recharge after a fairly challenging course, take a moment to stop in Cahors (located a few kilometers from Cours) to savor local specialties such as black truffle (nicknamed the black diamond of Quercy) or even Rocamadour (cheese specialty) paired with a good glass of Cahors wine… 🍷
