Around Chambéry, Montagnole hosts every November a varied trail in Savoie, with several routes: 8 km walk, 12.5 km and 22 km. Expect climbs and descents through forests, autumn landscapes and sometimes snow along the route, all near the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park. Enjoy a view over the valley and the villages of Montagnole and Saint-Cassin during the effort.

Less than 10km from Chambéry, the town is located in Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and welcomes you to its trail. The event takes place every year in November (with a chance of uncertain weather); along your race you will see a landscape that becomes increasingly snowy as you climb ❄️. This village, deeply involved in organizing the proposed festivities, offers several routes: 8 km of walking, the short route of 12.5 km or the long route of 22 km.
If you want to try breaking Olympic records, like Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps you’re in the right place—the Trail of Montagnole is about pushing yourself to grab the medal at the top of the mountain. On your ascent you’ll encounter varied landscapes, for the eye’s pleasure. The terrain is quite muddy, but don’t worry, you won’t stockpile that one 😆! You’ll even pass some snow at the edge of the course at this time of year, and you won’t be allowed to call on Martin Fourcade sliding down the slopes ⛷️. On the contrary, the numerous climbs and descents through the forest will keep you in shape, so no cheating. You’ll be able to enjoy autumn colors along the course. The sound of rushing water will cradle you and the spectators’ cheers will wake and galvanize you as you pass through the villages of Montagnole and Saint-Cassin. 🎉
At the gates of the Chartreuse Regional Park, you’ll have some panoramic views during your trail. The Cheyne of the Pine Epine range (watch your step and don’t poke a pine needle in your foot 🤕), the Bauges Massif, or the Raidard peak will rise before you. Even if your hair is already silky 👱♀️, you’ll also want to see the Mont-Granier ! You could also opt for another landmark, the mountain of Nivea Nivolet as well as the Col du Planet, and that’s not all! The view will be sublime, you’ll have a panorama over the Chambéry valley and over the Lac du Bourget.
If your gnole isn’t enough, take a quick ride to Belley after your trail. Do you have a bit of time before you leave? The Roman spa town, Aix-les-Bains, will impress you with its architecture. When you take a small tour in Savoie, there’s no reason not to savor a good fondue or a slice of regional cake!
