Between Montgailhard and the lush landscapes of the Ariège Pyrenees, this trail promises a strong spring moment with 3 distances: 40 km (D+ 2200 m), 21 km (D+ 1200 m) and 10 km (D+ 450 m), for runners and walkers. Start and finish in Montgailhard, passing through Soula and Foix, with panoramas of the mountains and the preserved nature of Ariège. A sportive and natural experience around the Parc naturel régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises.
Trail + Ariège + Montgailhard = promise of a top moment in spring! 🌼 At the edge of Parc naturel régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises, just below the department's prefecture, Foix, the small town of Montgailhard 💪 awaits you for an exceptional rendezvous designed for runners 🏃🏼♀️ as well as walkers 🚶🏼♀: the Trail of Montgailhard. The magnificent ⛰️ reliefs of the green montains nearby will challenge you, while giving you superb views of the nature 😍 of this small paradise of Occitanie located in the Pyrenees. Plan in your pre-race itinerary: 2200 mD+ for the medium trail (40 km), 1200 m of positive elevation for the short trail (21 km), 450 m for the discovery trail (10 km) 👀.
Starts and finishes are at Montgailhard. You’ll then get to wander the trails of the commune, from Soula and of Foix for a stunning leg. You’ll push a bit with the famous Pic de l'Aspre, from the Cap de Touron or the Roc Nègre... ☝ A few of the many peaks along the route... The walkers meanwhile get a 9 km segment with 500 m of elevation. Each to their own path, this one is perfect for admiring the wonders of the area 😏.
Another great news if you come to run in Ariège, is that the department is full of treasures! 💰 Perfect for combining cultural discovery and running... The Parc Naturel des Pyrénées Ariégeoises holds an important place in the territory, covering nearly 40% of its surface! 😯 Breathe easy here... The diversity of natural landscapes, between forests, plains, valleys and high mountains, is a gift for the eyes! Names of natural spots to discover with family or friends? Citons le Lacs Bethmale(attention spoiler !) and its turquoise water,Cascades de l’Artigue and more of the Ars, or the famous Grottes du Mas d’Azil and Lombrives... 🙄 There is plenty to do, you’ll have to come back another weekend or extend your stay. For dining, many high-altitude villages await with their very special charm. The castles of Foix, of Gudanes or Montségur represent interesting stops for history lovers 🫶. Incidentally, Montségur Castle is part of the so-called Cathar Castles, a piece of history still very present in southern France 🌞.
