About this event
Participate in the Trail of the Gy Mountains starting from Gy, with two races of 10 km and 14 km through the forests, vineyards and meadows of the Gy Mountains in the northeast of Besançon. In March, expect mud and the typical landscapes of Haute-Saône, between precise wayfinding and passages near the Château de Gy. After the effort, the scent of Cancoillotte accompanies the return to the heart of Gy and its Mediterranean-like environments of the dry meadows.
Ah the Monts de Gy, this community of communes in the heart of Haute-Saône (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté). The small town of Gy, located in the northeast of Besançon, marks the start of the famous Trail des Monts de Gy and its two races of 10km and 14km. If you love nature, between the forest, the vineyards, the undergrowth or even the meadows, you’ll be spoiled. Indeed, the main race, the Kangaroo Trail and its 14km, gives you plenty to become a true Tarzan 🦍.
Regarding the event, in March in Haute-Saône, it’s not the Maldives 🏝, it isn’t so hot! You can also expect a few drizzles and some (maybe a lot, if the weather is capricious) muddy areas. So put on good socks and lace your shoes well. Mud may potentially be part of the scenery, so don’t waste time wrapping mud at the Spa just before the race if you know what we mean 😂. Rest assured, there will also be a few less “face-breaking” trails and, after all, with a bit of luck, it might still be sunny!
Say Gy and you say Château de Gy 🏰 ! Yes, pass-through and pass-through (you’ll see it at the start but also at the end of your race) mandatory in front of this magnificent building, of which part of its roof is made of glazed tiles in red and yellow (typical of the Burgundian region), and overlooks the surrounding plains. In the heart of the famous L’Ognon valley (Without an "i", yes it stings the eyes 🧅), you might spot, with a bit of luck, the first wild orchids that appear in spring, cradled by the songs of the European nightingales (it’s a small bird whose plumage blends with the color of fallen leaves, perfect for blending into nature). You won’t be far from the famous dry meadows that give a Mediterranean feel to the landscape. Be very attentive to the course markings, otherwise you’ll get lost and risk ending up at the bottom of la Goule de Captiot ! It is one of the longest underground caverns in the department, at 2,310m long.
At the end of the race, from the moment you exit the forest, you’ll already be able to smell the famous Cancoillotte regional cheese (melty cheese) as you return to Gy.
