Heading out in June near Angers and discover the Trail des Ragondins in Cantenay-Épinard (Maine-et-Loire). Three distances on the program: 8 km, 15 km, and 31 km, with the option of a relay for the 31 km, all in a loop through forests and passages on pontoons and locks. A sporty and family-friendly vibe, between lush nature and local discoveries, for an exceptional race.
Don’t judge by the name alone—the Trail of the Otters isn’t for rodents, it’s for runners!
You may know Cantenay-Epinard, in Maine-et-Loire. The routes of the Basses Vallées Angevinesare famous in the region! This trail will let you discover stunning green landscapes, a refreshing family atmosphere, and... otters (but only if you’re Lynx-eyed 👀). Tell me, Jamy, why name it that? Well, Fred, it’s because you’ll discover the aquatic environment of this little rodent 🦝! So mark it on your calendar, ready to note? Set off in June to take on this exceptional race near Angers!
It’s not one, not two but indeed three races you can join on 8km,15 km, and 31 km . And if you’re more of a pack person, you can also do the 31 km as a relay. It’s time to leap along the locks of Montreuil-Juigné and the rivers of the Sarthe and Mayenne, which you’ll cross sometimes on floating pontoons. Pretty cool view, but you’re not in Nouméa, even Laure would tell you not to dive 🏊 . And to keep the animal theme going, you’ll, like a snake biting its tail, complete a looped course with forest sections 🌲. The Trail of the Otters will lead you to unique places like the Château de Perrières 🏰 . You’ll even pass by the company Giffard in Avrillé. The temptation of a glass of Menthe-Pastille will freshen your breath and keep you from having the orange teeth of otters! Although not sure there are any at the refreshment point... 😅
Sporty and festive, you enjoy a good drink? We guessed as much! It’s the perfect chance to stop at the Cointreau distillery just a few steps from your trail. But you’re not done with surprises in Anjou. We know June is the perfect month to hang out on a terrace! A little glass of Cabernet d’Anjou accompanied by Galipettes d’Anjou await for a local aperitif—that’s tempting 🥂 ! And if you’re passing through, stop in Angers to discover its magnificent castle and its blooming gardens.
