Trail du Cap Sizun - Pointe du Raz

You’ve never heard of the Cap Sizun - Pointe du Raz Trail* 😱 ?

This Breton trail located in Finistère, (to be precise Jamy) snakes along numerous coves and headlands of the Côte d'Iroise ! As you might expect, a guaranteed spectacle, since this sea-side trail offers breathtaking views of the Celtic Sea, the Sea of Iroise and the Atlantic Ocean. Organizers have thought of everything, with a discovery trail of 5 km, a short trail of 14 km and a long trail of 30 km for the more experienced! And that's not all, a 15 km Nordic walking option is also on the program. What more could you ask for 😎?

Come on, admit it, now you want to know everything about the course 🤗. We warn you, the scenery will knock your socks off like a tennis match spectator 🎾! By taking the natural footpaths of the Douaniers and the rocky stretch of the mythical GR 34, you’ll see to the right the Big Blue, and to your left you’ll observe the lush green coastal nature. This race will take you through iconic places of the Cap Sizun, passing by the Pointe du Van to finish at the Pointe du Raz. You’ll notably see the Lighthouse of La Vieille next to Ile de Sein before discovering the Grande Statue of Our Lady of Shipwrecks. For now, fun fact: Bretons usually sing the hymn of forgiveness in July (rest assured, you won’t be asked to belt out a tune 🎤). You’ll also have the chance to pass by the remarkable Baie des Trépasses, beloved by surfers for its clear water not its heat 😂 (and yes, let’s not forget we’re in Brittany 🤷‍♀️).

By the way, the “Cap Trail” (that’s how close friends refer to it) takes place in early March, the average temperature hovers around 10°C, so gear up for sea spray and coastal winds that will refresh your strides. Those strides can be rhythmically accompanied by the melodies of cormorants, seagulls and other seabirds of the Cap Sizun Reserve 🐦.

Recharge after smashing the clock with Breton specialties (the list is long...). We suggest a good savory crepe (or sweet, depending on your post-race craving). And to cool you down, opt for the local specialty, cider! Easy to find happiness with the region’s 600 apple varieties.

*The Cap Sizun Trail isn’t exactly the westernmost in France 🙂, its neighbor the Trail of the World’s End is apparently the westernmost trail! We’ll let you look and tell us what you think ?
