In the Vosges, this trail offers 5 distances from 8 to 70 km with elevation gain up to 3320 m, starting and finishing at Le Markstein station, in Oderen in the Haut-Rhin, in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges. Running through forests and valleys, you will run along the Lauch Lake and pass near the Guebwiller integral biological reserve, with panoramas of the Grand Ballon des Vosges and the possibility… of snow on the course. After the effort, discover the atmosphere and the local Alsatian gastronomy.
The Vosges in April, when spring light brightens the mountains, is the perfect time to kick off a high-quality run. An amateur finisher of hilly courses, grab your bib for the Trail du Grand Ballon, in Oderen in the Haut-Rhin! 👍
In the Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges, the organizers have planned for you 5 distances to suit you for sure: 8 km with 290m D+ , 22 km with 980m D+ , 32 km with 1390m D+ , 48 km with 2240m D+ and 70 km with 3320m D+.
Each time, the start and finish are at the station Le Markstein, in Oderenin the high Thur valley ⛷️. So, even though temperatures will be pleasantly warm, it has happened that participants discovered… snow on the course. The events run through the forest and you’ll pass by the biological reserve of Guebwiller. You’ll also run along the Lauch Lake and soon the col road will reveal no secrets to you. The elevations all around the Grand Ballon des Vosges will surely push you to your limits, but the view up top is exquisite and you’ll forget everything in front of these magnificent panoramas! 🏞️
After the race, take time to visit Oderen, a Alsatian village founded in the mid-13th century, governed by several abbesses in the Middle Ages before becoming a city industrial hub and today a premier outdoor tourism spot in the Grand Est region. ⚔️
As for gastronomy, the iconic choucroute is a must, as are the munster and the baeckeoffe. And for a drink, Riesling always does Alsace proud! 🥃
A little lift after the Trail du Grand Ballon, of course, it flows naturally, right?
