Trail du Pacte des Loups

The Beast of Gévaudan that had French people shaken in the mid-18th century is back 😨 ! To see it, there’s only one way: participate in the Trail of the Wolf Pact.

A race that follows in the footsteps of the film “ The Wolf Pact ” inspired by the legend of the beast. The film was shot in the Baronnies of the Pyrenees, and it’s there, in the village of Esparros that the trail takes place. Nestled in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in Occitanie, the village is the start and finish of a trail known as the white wolf 🐺 .

Several routes are available to you: short trails of 10 km and 20 km and if you’re in very, very good shape, the 36km with over 2800mD+ will offer you a parcours as sublime as it is challenging, up to you to see how you feel. If you just want to enjoy the scenery, the 11km of walking is just as appealing. The mountains are beautiful but in September it’s still summer! So don’t throw yourself into the wolf’s mouth, and don’t forget your cup to hydrate at the aid stations 🚰 .

If you decide to chase the signal of Bassia (that’s to say the 36km) you won’t miss the breathtaking view that inspired Christophe Gans for his film. Don’t worry, if you choose the other distances, you’ll be able to enjoy it just as well, the landscape is very open along the entire course. The view over the Baronnies des Pyrénées with thousands of lime trees that keep appearing in your field of vision as you climb, is worth it ⛰️ ! Climbing cols will be your goal, like a isard (Pyrenean chamois), you will ascend one by one the Cols of Couradabat, des Ares and de l'Oueil Lusent. During your race, you will surely recall scenes from the film if you’re a fan of the work, otherwise it might make you want to watch it, who knows 🎞️ ?

Hungry for a wolf’s bite? Show your fangs and let loose on the skewered cake, a Pyrenean specialty, as the name suggests it’s cooked on a spit giving it a very distinctive shape. Why not enjoy it while listening to Pyrenean songs and admiring the summits and passes you’ve climbed? Still be mindful of the Gouffre d'Esparros that could gobble you up with its beauty!
