In Cottance, in the heart of the Monts du Lyonnais, the Night Trail of the Monorail offers 12 and 20 km on trails steeped in history, with a discovery option of 7 km without a clock. Under the night and strongly recommended disguises, experience a unique Halloween vibe and get ready for a hot soup after the effort. Also ideal to get into the SaintéLyon atmosphere and the winter ultratrail spirit.
Imagine… 🌙 Night falls over Cottance, a small village perched in the Monts du Lyonnais ⛰️, and a strange mist covers the trails. In the heart of the Loire, in the silence, you might hear a creaking of old iron… Could it be the echo of the phantom monorail that, in the 19th century, was meant to connect Feurs to Panissières but never finished its journey? 🚂 The rails are gone, but the legend, she’s still running 🤫. And tonight, you’re the one to wake it during the Trail Nocturne du Monorail 🫵.
The Trail Nocturne du Monorail, is a one-of-a-kind adventure: two trail courses of 12 km and 20 kmmonorail path, this route takes you through the history of this “funny machine” (that’s how locals call it 😉). And since we’ll be October 31st, dive fully into the vibe 🎃. Here, running in costume isn’t just tolerated, it’s strongly encouraged 🎭. Imagine the scene: a ghost train filled with zombies 🧟, witches 🧙 and vampires 🧛 tearing through the night at full speed… except the rails are trails, and the journey ends with a hot bowl of “special Halloween” soup 🍲. Some runners even end up wondering if they’re really crossing participants… or passengers of the haunted monorail escaped from the past ⏰. And if you want to play strategically, know that this race is perfect to prepare for SaintéLyon: the same nocturnal vibe, the same sensations of an ultra-trail in winter, and perhaps snow on the menu! ❄️
After the race, don’t leave the area just yet ❌. If you’ve survived the haunted forest of Cottance, extend the weekend! Stroll through Feurs and its charming little streets, wander to the weaving and silk museum, or go admire the Valette Chapel. And above all… prepare your stomach 🤪. François Rabelais ✍️, a native of the Loire, drew inspiration from this region to write Gargantua. So it’s no accident that the gargantuan dishes in this novel are so tempting 😋. Fourme de Montbrison creamy, shredded potatos, praluline coming straight from Roanne, and even the famous barboton that warms you up almost as much as your post-race soup 🥶.
