The Ultra Boucle de la Sarra in Lyon is a technical urban trail with a 2 km loop and 90 m elevation gain. Registered in a time format: 2h, 6h, 12h or 24h, solo or relay up to 3 runners, it has attracted seasoned runners since 2013. The start takes place on the esplanade de la Sarra and the route mixes asphalt, cobblestone, grass and woods, with night sections and views of the Monts d’Or, Croix-Rousse, and Saône. Bonus: showers, festive atmosphere and local stories around the piste de la Sarra and the Basilica of Fourvière.

The Ultra Boucle de la Sarra in Lyon is an urban trail that has become a privileged gathering for runners in the Rhône department since its creation in 2013. And beware, it’s seriously heavy, worthy of the great Finisher you are! 🏃
There is only one 2 km loop with a positive elevation of 90 mD+ ➰. Easy, right? Except it runs in time slots, so you must complete it within 2h, 6h (solo or in relay of 2 or 3), 12h or… 24h, an hourly race what! On the program of this challenge reserved for trained and seasoned runners: start from the Esplanade of the Sarra, Nicolas de Lange climb, Fourvière hill, Parc des Hauteurs and Passèrelle des Quatre-Vents. In total, there are exactly 563 stairs to climb! It’s asphalt, it’s cobblestones but that’s not all: there will also be grass, some wooden boards and trails. Yes, all that in 2 laps! And for scenery, you’ll be spoiled with views of the summits of Monts d’Or, the Croix-Rousse, the Saône and even a replica of the top floor of the Eiffel Tower near the Basilica of Fourvière. 👀
Plus, every course has at least a nighttime section. It adds a festive and friendly vibe to the challenge, limited to 450 lucky participants to keep it human-sized 🧗. Bonus: there are showers available to freshen up before heading to a Lyon bouchon. After a good meal, we’ll surely tell you the story of the Sarra path that used to let Lyonnais enjoy ski joys in winter!
