Winter Run Praha (a stop on a national winter running series that’s incredibly popular) is the flagship edition that every year proves Prague has a mesmerizing charm not only under the summer sun but also wrapped in a winter atmosphere and a blanket of snow.

During the Prague edition of this winter classic, runners can choose between two fast and dynamic distances: 4 km (Sprint) and the main race of 8 km (Winter Run). The race village and course are most often set up in the legendary Ladronka Park (considered one of the capital’s best recreation spots) or on the picturesque Letná Meadows. Wide, well-prepped avenues, a refreshing winter air and the burning encouragement of supporters guarantee a powerful dose of endorphins. At the finish, you’ll be rewarded with a unique trophy: the legendary heavy winter-emblem medallion, as well as a comforting cup of tea, steaming.

Winter Tale in Hradčany: Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) and the Golden Lane covered in a blanket of snow look absolutely magical, like something out of an Andersen tale. The huge advantage of a winter visit is that there are far fewer tourists than in summer: you can soak in this monumental atmosphere at your own pace 🏰.

Charles Bridge and Old Town at your leisure: A stroll on the icy Charles Bridge (Karlův most) at dawn or late evening has an incredibly mysterious charm. The fog drifting over the Vltava freezing river and the view of the Old Town towers lit up stay with you long after.

Warming up in Prague cafes: Prague is home to hundreds of incredibly cosy and atmospheric cafes — from historic spots (like Cafe Louvre or Cafe Slavia) to modern specialty roasters (for example in the trendy Karlín district or in Letná). After the hard cold effort, a cup of hot chocolate or a great infusion will get you back on your feet in minutes ☕.

Czech royal feast for a wolfish appetite: After a winter race, forget the diet. Stop by a traditional Prague hospoda and order a comforting, spicy garlic soup (česnečka) with croutons and molten cheese. For the main course, the legendary vepřové koleno (roast pork knuckle) would be perfect, or a hearty goulash served in bread with soft knedlíky.
