Winter Trail Małopolska

If you thought that Małopolska in winter is just skiing in Zakopane, think again, because Winter Trail Małopolska (WTM) would quickly prove you wrong. It’s one of the toughest and most atmospheric winter races in Poland. The event is based in Lubień, and the courses weave through the wild and unpredictable trails of the Beskid Wyspowy (notably Szczebel and Luboń Wielki).

The ascent to Szczebel is legendary. In winter, with ice or deep snow, it becomes a vertical struggle for every meter. It’s here that the grip of your crampons and the strength of your character are put to the test. 📈🧊 No room for boredom! The technical descents over icy rocks and snowy roots require total concentration and are waiting only for mountaineers ready to master them 🎢👟

Once you’ve returned from the icy trails to the Lubień base, Małopolska will welcome you like it knows how:

Bonfire and hot meals: At WTМ finish there’s always a fire and a hearty portion of food. Grilling sausages together and chatting with other “frozen ones” is the best way to bond. 🔥🌭

Nearby thermal baths: Lubień is close to the road to Zakopane, giving you excellent access to the Chochołów Term baths or to the Bukovina Tatrzańska Term. Nothing resets you after a winter ultra like a few hours in a hot mineral bath. 🛀🌋

Visit of Rabka-Zdrój : The nearby spa town offers a brine graduation tour and a thermal park. A stroll through this microclimate is an excellent way to regenerate the airways after inhaling icy air during the race. 🌲⛲

Regional cuisine in the inns: Around Pcim or near Skomielna Biała, you’ll find inns serving hearty dishes. A żurek soup served in bread or cabbage and mushroom pierogi are staples. 🥟🥣

Riverside rest near the Raba: Even if, in winter, the river isn’t inviting for a dip, a peaceful stroll along its banks at Lubień will help you calm the nerves after the race. 🌊❄️
